Course Selection

Advisors are available to assist you in using the Independent Learning courses to meet your education goals. For information on how to contact an advisor, go to the Contact Us page.

Online- Many Independent Learning courses are delivered online. For more information and the current course listings, please click the Catalog link and select the Online Courses link at the bottom of the page, or call Student Services.

Print-Based- Print-based courses allow students to submit course work by surface mail or fax. All corrected course work is returned by surface mail.

Print-Based with E-mail Option- Many of our print-based courses have an e-mail option for the delivery of assignments and exam requests. You will receive simple instructions, password, and user ID upon registration. For more information on courses with this option, please click the Catalog link or call Student Services.

Undergraduate Credits- Credits you earn through Independent Learning courses may be applied toward an associate or bachelor's degree. Check with an advisor at your home institution to make sure the course will transfer. If you are attending a University of Wisconsin System institution, check the Transfer Information System for transfer information.

Qualified high-school age students may take undergraduate courses for college credit. Registration must be approved by our advising staff and students attending high school should discuss their plans with a high school counselor or principal.

High School Credits- Independent Learning offers a variety of high school courses that can be applied toward a high school diploma. Independent Learning does not, however, grant high school diplomas. If you want to complete your graduation requirements through Independent Learning, you must obtain permission from your high school to take courses for diploma credit. The diploma will be awarded by your school. Your high school counselor can help you decide which courses you need to complete your graduation requirements.
