Federal Benefits

Veterans

Montgomery G.I. Bill - Veterans wishing to use education benefits under the Montgomery G.I. Bill for an Independent Learning course must be concurrently registered at a degree-granting institution. Written permission from that institution indicating that the Independent Learning course will be applied toward degree requirements must be submitted to the Independent Learning veterans certifying official. Only undergraduate-credit Independent Learning courses are approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Vocational Rehabilitation - Veterans receiving benefits under the Vocational Rehabilitation program (Chapter 31) may receive approval for Independent Learning courses. For more information, contact your Vocational Rehabilitation counselor, who is assigned by your county VA office. For more information about veterans' educational benefits, go online to http://www.gibill.va.gov/ or call 888-GIBill-1 (888-442-4551).

U.S. Armed Forces Personnel

Service members may use reimbursable tuition assistance for all Independent Learning courses. Many of these courses may be completed within the time frame required for up-front tuition assistance. Contact Student Services to find out if the course you’re interested in will qualify. Service members should discuss tuition assistance policy and procedures with their supporting education center or Navy Campus office before registering. For more information about the tuition assistance program, call 850-452-1085 or visit http://www.voled.doded.mil/

State Benefits

Wisconsin educational benefits may be obtained by veterans who meet military service and state residency requirements set by the state legislature. Some benefits for which veterans may be eligible include those specified in the Wisconsin G.I. Bill and the Veterans Education Grant (VetEd). For more information, call the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs toll-free at 800-WIS-VETS (800-947-8387) or visit their Web site at http://dva.state.wi.us. Veterans living in other states should contact their state’s Department of Veterans Affairs.
